In order to evolve and to grow as Essences, we need to experience “dark nights”, periods in which emotions such as anxiety, grief, discouragement and despair take possession of us, disturbing the soul in order to “cook” our ego. These are the nights of “contradiction” in which we must know how to wait, otherwise, gripped by anxiety and hesitation, that sense of fear and alienation linked to the abandonment of beliefs and rules that bind us to the profane world will worsen.

Knowing oneself implies the ability to continue walking, despite the difficulties and trials dictated by Life with firmness and dignity. This means learning to overcome oneself again, again and again, confident and tireless, slowly growing the limits imposed by one’s idealized identity until we see them for what they are: thoughts not investigated with discrimination, borrowed beliefs never elaborated with discernment; in short, mental lucubrations induced by the reference model with which we were edu-castrated and raised.

You did not consciously choose this world, it revealed itself to your soul which, trusting and innocent, assimilated it with loving naivety. Only he who discerns between the world he found at birth and the world to which he aspires, can truly orient himself to the call of the Spirit.

Only you can remember and determine what is right and true for you. Everyone is given the opportunity to self-determine, to perceive and transform their own illusory certainties and finally open up to the true Reality of life. The separation between the idealization of oneself and the Real world by nature creates friction, requires tests, which operate and act in a direct and performing way through states and periods of crisis, necessary to feed in man the Fire necessary for the alchemical solve.

For the mystics the “dark night of the soul” is a period of upheaval, sadness, fear, anguish, confusion and solitude, experiences necessary to open up to the Divine. Many, when they try to get out of their ego, feel the sensation of entering a new dimension full of doubts, ambiguities, uncertainties, a place where one feels lost and it is almost impossible to think clearly; the old points of reference are inconsistent here. The Awakening can be very painful for those who resist depersonalization, because they are still too attached and immersed in their own dream or because, despite the evidence, they are not able to submit and obey the voice of their Spirit.

Your mind would like you to go back into enclosure, to stop freely exploring the reality of Life, and return to the blissful ‘comfort’ of the sheepfold, from which perhaps you should never have left. This is the feared resignation, the conformism that pushes you to believe that your personal transformation can only be a utopia.

However, I invite you to never give up, and if it can reassure you, know that overcoming yourself is ultimately Being what you actually already are.

The blossoming in us of the Principle of Love implies the death of the ordinary self.
